AdWords Opens Bidding on “Beer and Champagne”

From: feedburner.com

It’s raining Beer and Champagne all over! Google has now opened up the restrictions for alcohol. Earlier, the only alcoholic terms that could be used in bidding were wine related terms.

According to Gonzo SEO

Beer, wine and champagne may now be promoted from ad text and may be the focus of your site. We consider beer, wine and champagne to be products intended for the sale and consumption of adults. Therefore, ads promoting beer, wine and champagne will be given a Non-Family Safe status.

For information on how the family status of an ad may affect, please visit Google Adwords Support

Google AdWords Opens Bidding on Beer & Champagne

As far as the hard liqueurs are concerned, one can not bid on those terms. According to Google, Hard alcohol and liqueurs are considered Restricted Products and therefore cannot be promoted in ad text or be the purpose of your site (occupying a significant portion of your site).

Google Adwords Encourages Voters

From: feedburner.com

http://newsletter.blizzardinternet.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/10/google.jpg

When you log into your Google Adwords account, Google has a surprise for you, a note that says:

Vote on November 4th Democracy works best when we all participate. Please take time to vote on Election Day. Googles 2008 Voter Info Map can help you find your local polling place. Find your local polling place.

We found it particularly amusing that Google is messaging users via their AdWords accounts, but its still kinda cool. Just a tidbit for you to nibble on today:)

Google Earth for iPhone

From: feedburner.com

Google announced that their Google Earth satellite pics program is now available for the iPhone too, and can be found in the iTunes App Store. On a side-note, while watching Googles promotional video for this on YouTube, I noticed an example of a YouTube in-video ad.

New Google Analytics Segmentation

From: feedburner.com

Im using the new GA segmentation, and all I can say is WOW. This is going to blow you away. Prepare to see your data in a whole different light. Previously youd be looking at enterprise-grade analytics to get into this level of data manipulation, so this is going to be a game changer.

Google Analyzes Brain Waves to Measure Ad Effects

From: feedburner.com

Today, Garett Rogers of Googling Google reports:

Google, along with MediaVest are releasing information about ad quality determined by reading brain waves and psychological responses to ads on video content. (...)

The goal was to measure the impact of YouTube overlay advertisements on attention levels, emotional engagement, and other psychological metrics.

Google, with the help of NeuroFocus, used a sample group of participants, and measured things likes skin responses, eye movement and an EEG brain scan.

Googles Leah Spalding responds to why Google doesnt just measure click-through rates for ads. Click through was important.. but since were looking at brand impact, its not enough to just look at the click through rate (CTR). CTR will not give us any indication as far as how memorable an ad is, or metrics on brand impact, etc.

The image above is from slides of the web seminar Garett uploaded.

Economy Down and Google Up

From: feedburner.com

Have you seen the latest results from Google? A 31% increase year-over-year, even though every economic indicator we get has been bad. Are you so jealous that you’re ready to stomp Google? Or are you one of the businesses rapidly moving your spending to paid search, fueling these very results? Regardless, find out why Google is reaping the benefits in my new post on Search Engine Guide, “Economy Down and Google Up.”

Yahoo! To Layoff 5000 People?

From: feedburner.com

I think this economic catastrophe will not spare anyone. Even Yahoo! seems to be getting largely affected by this huge wreck, specially in the US economy.

Wall Street Journal is geared up with ample information as far as the cost-cutting measures of Yahoo! are concerned!

“Yahoo Inc. is drafting significant cost-cutting plans to try to reverse its fortunes from the inside.

The Sunnyvale, Calif., Internet company is expected to disclose the cost cuts as soon as Tuesday, when it reports quarterly earnings, say people familiar with the matter. The cuts will involve layoffs, among other things, these people say.

The exact number of jobs to be eliminated remains unclear, though it is expected to exceed the 1,000 jobs that Yahoo announced it was cutting in January, say people familiar with the matter. Precisely which jobs will be excised isn’t likely to be announced for at ”

According to Techcrunch, “In January, Yahoo laid off 1,000 people, and all year it has been suffering from a major drain of talent. But it still has plenty of employees"about 14,000. Getting rid of another 10 percent or so would have a meaningful financial impact by lowering expenses, but it would also lower morale.”

I think, in this recessionary period, Yahoo is hoping to turn things on its way, with the help of these cost-cutting measures!

Broken Homepage Link to Energy Calculator

From: feedburner.com

A short while ago the Google.com homepage was showing a link that didnt resolve to any page in many countries again* for some hours (perhaps everywhere outside the US due to geolocation). The link text was reading Haunted by high energy costs? Here are some easy ways to save. The link still seems to show inside the US but if youre elsewhere and youre wondering what the page behind that looks like, take a look: its a Halloween-themed CO2 calculator.
