Coordinates with: Marketing Department, Network Operations Centre, QA Team, members of the Software Engineering team
Job Description
The successful applicant will join a new team involved in designing, creating and documenting database-driven dynamic web content which interacts with a multitude of other tools in a highly networked environment. The role of the webmaster is to deploy, maintain and update live web interfaces based on input and requests from the Marketing and User Experience teams.
Essential Functions
* Deploy, maintain and update production web interfaces in a Linux environment
* Writing elegant, reusable and well documented code while maintaining less than elegant and not so well documented code
* Maintain and extend functionality of our content management system
* Communicate clearly with managers and other team members
* Perform duties in a timely, professional manner
* Tracking and reporting on customer facing websites using a variety of tools
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Strong experience writing W3C compliant, semantically marked up XHTML and CSS without a graphical editor
* Strong database design and development skills including PostgreSQL and MySQL
* Experience with PHP development, effective cacheing and Apache server configurations
* Experience with multiple content-type, content-language, and proper character encoding when handling foreign languages
* Detailed understanding of DOM, Javascript, cross-platform and browser compatibility
* Detailed understanding of SEO and accessibility best practices
* Working knowledge of XML, Flash, Java, CMS
* Working knowledge of best practices in web form layout and design
* Clear understanding of web graphic optimization for wide range of clients and speeds
* Experience with software design, debugging and documentation an asset
* Highly organized and self motivated
* Attention to details
* Sense of humor
Qualifications
The successful applicant will have experience administering websites in a Linux/*IX environment and may have web interface development experience. Experience with Flash, DHTML, and/or other languages (Perl, Java, C/C++, etc.) will be taken into account. Post-secondary education and/or industry certification are both assets.
