As the Online Specialist who manages web content, you are passionate about online communications and stay up to date on the latest innovations and practices. You are part of a cross-functional team serving an international online audience. You are the project manager for content development for Tourism British Columbia’s consumer websites. You work with internal stakeholders and external contributors, ensuring that well architected, concisely written and attractively designed web content is produced on strategy, on brand, on time, on budget and follows the style guide. While your focus will be on web content management, your expertise must include online creative and production.
Your responsibilities in leading content management and visual design implementation for Tourism British Columbia’s consumer websites are:
* Following best practices for usability, information architecture and accessibility to deliver a high-quality user experience with web content;
* Managing web content that is created by Tourism British Columbia but also by the tourism industry and user generated content;
* Defining content requirements to support our international network of websites and address a world-wide audience wanting to learn about and plan a trip to British Columbia;
* Developing and implementing a rolling, 12-month editorial calendar and a detailed, 3-month assignment schedule;
* Briefing assignments and managing deadlines for internal and external information specialists, writers, editors and art directors to ensure their work meets the creative direction, search engine optimization [SEO] needs and scheduling requirements;
* Reviewing all web content at multiple stages of development for conformance to standards for information architecture, SEO, branding, editorial style and visual design;
* Providing light editing for tone and as the last quality check before content goes live;
* Developing web content reporting requirements and analyzing web metrics to monitor and improve the effectiveness of web content;
* Balancing the needs of delivering reader-focused editorial content vs. supporting advertisers;
* Participating on Tourism British Columbia’s web teams, providing input into user experience, brand and content project components;
* Watching for opportunities to add value to the websites in the areas of usability, navigation, interactivity and engaging appeal;
Your post-secondary degree or diploma is in communications, journalism or a related area of study. You have worked for one to three years in an editorial team or web content team. Your track record providing effective online communications, including content management within an online environment, is combined with your ability to collaborate with a range of team members and stakeholders, managing multiple demands in a high-volume, rapidly changing environment. Knowledge of and experience with a content management system, HTML, CSS, Photoshop, search engine optimization (SEO) needs and techniques, the role of information architecture and visual design principles are essential to this position. Knowledge of British Columbia and tourism are a plus.
