The Law Courts Education Society of BC is a non-profit public legal education provider dedicated to improving access to the law through hands-on, two-way education between the public and those working in the justice system.
We are seeking a creative, driven and very Internet savvy marketing and communications manager to head our 3-person Web and Communications Department. The ideal candidate is a hands-on marketing professional with brand roll-out experience, profit and non-profit sector experience, and understanding of project management. The ideal candidate is not “afraid of technology”, and enjoys overseeing the development of educational websites. He/she also has experience with or an interest in legal issues, and possesses the ability to develop strong relationships with executive-level stakeholders.
Reporting to the Executive Director, you will be responsible for:
* Corporate Communications, Event and Marketing Management - You’ll develop and direct the implementation of a comprehensive provincial marketing strategy utilizing LCES’ new brand as a springboard; you’ll foster innovative, grass-roots PR activities to position LCES as the leading public legal education provider; you’ll use print and electronic media to grow awareness of LCES projects and programs, deliver LCES programs to the public, and drive traffic to in-house programs and to the LCES website.
* Web Projects/Programs Development and Management - You’ll develop and implement a ‘learning-centred’ LCES corporate website strategy which highlights LCES projects and programs and meets the needs of a variety of audiences; You’ll also manage the life-cycle of LCES’ many Internet-related projects, taking a single project from concept, to development, to launch.
* Team Management - You’ll oversee a small, dynamic team including a Marketing Communications and Events Coordinator, a Web and IT Coordinator and a number of contract workers.
* Budget Management - You’ll develop and manage your department to maximize LCES’ non-profit budget. You’ll also work closely with the Executive Director to develop proposals to increase revenue to this area.
Required Qualifications:
* You are a highly motivated self-starter with a comprehensive understanding of branding and cross-channel marketing strategies and how they can be used effectively in a non-profit environment. You are very into technology and eager to use your skills to conceptualize and develop Internet-related products and programs to help promote LCES and bridge the gap between the general public and the legal system.
* You can take a project from concept to roll-out and manage all aspects of development. You are a strong leader, a confident communicator and have a flair for the written word. You can easily manage multiple, unrelated tasks at one time and you bring a positive, flexible, ‘can-do’ attitude to the mix.
* You have 5+ years of marketing management experience in a hands-on environment including web development experience/understanding - either in a hands-on web design role or as a web project manager. You also have an understanding of web-based education and how best to teach using Internet technologies.
Education:
* Undergraduate degree (or BCIT equivalent specialization), preferably including courses in Marketing/Communications/Web Project Management/Design/Education, etc.
This is a full-time position (Monday to Friday) and is based at our head office in the Provincial Court building at 800 Hornby Street in Vancouver. Our Society offers competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package that includes a generous pension plan. Please make a note of your salary expectations in your cover letter. The successful candidate will also be subject to a criminal record check.
Start Date: As early as possible after October 26, 2008
