This posting is for full-time position(s) located in trendy Kitsilano, Vancouver, BC at Sitemasher.
Sitemasher is building an online platform for online development and is looking for web designers with excellent graphic design skills and a solid understanding of usability. We have built a great team so far and also believe in working and playing hard at the same time.
A good working knowledge of HTML and advanced CSS is a major plus. Must have a good idea of what it takes to design and build forms within a website and familiar on how it’s connected to the back-end of a database or server side script. Must have a general understanding of the importance of best practices such as web standards, accessibility and search engine optimization.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
* Must be artistically inclined - ability to produce creative awe-inspiring designs.
* A solid understanding of web usability and W3C standards with regards to commonly-used concepts, best practices, and procedures to produce multi-page web site.
* Able to produce documentation for web projects (plan and storyboard site structure).
* Competency in Photoshop, Illustrator, and some Flash is a bonus.
* Have spliced and diced graphics as well as implemented them in html and CSS.
* Knows how to design a site in CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) and not table layout.
* Ability to evaluate new and evolving website technologies.
* Collaborate with product development team on the software design tool and give feature feedback based on your knowledge.
* Be a part of the creation of template designs for mass production scenarios.
* Design any media pieces required for online advertising (ie Banner Ads)
* Knows the differences between a blog, forum and wiki and can support in the design, layout and usability.
* Possibly “skinned” some 3rd party tools connected to your websites to give it your own look and feel.
* Collegial or Bachelor degree in Web design.
* 3-5 years relevant work experience.
* Have a polished and professional portfolio.
* Excellent written and oral communications skills.

Scope of the Position
Developing the annual Web strategy for the Open Learning (OL) division, you will manage online usability and navigation, oversee the optimization of OL Web properties, translate high-level initiatives into functioning Web projects, provide council and leadership for online program managers and analysts, and assist in the planning, development and execution of marketing and communications strategies on the Web.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess 3 years’ related experience, extensive background in operating in a Web environment, and skill with Web software (WebTrends, HBX, FrontPage, DreamWeaver, Photoshop, Flash MX, HTML, XML, DHTML, Javascript).
