Identity 2.0 Keynote Video by Dick Hardt from Sxip.com

I really like to find these videos these days that deliver user centric products and services from all the corners of the web. It seems like I could be blogging all day about everything great that is popping up on the radar every single day. Yes, I know, one of these days I will start creating my own. This one will keep you entertained until then. The presentation style is really awesome.

This video is bit special because it is coming from a local Vancouver entrepreneur, Dick Hardt from Sxip.com, where he presents his solution for Identity 2.0 and how to manage your digital identity across numerous sites. His idea is brilliant, saves time and favors the users as opposed to corporations. Check it out:

Why am I doing this? Well, this video was sent to me from Thierry Latremoille and he asks me to comment on. Since I do not know enough about identity 2.0 just yet or sxip.com for that matter, I have to do some homework. Also, because I want to do this properly, please let me know what you think so I can collect as many benefits as possible (and drawbacks) for using Identity 2.0 services such as sxip.com or any other. I would really like to hear. Thanks!

Comments

  1. I think there is no doubt that the ideas Dick presents are smart and right. But will it happen? It’s been a pretty tough slog so far for Sxip. They debuted about 2 1/2 years ago and they don’t really have a lot of traction yet on their products, either from users or from adminstrators of identity. Simple: identity is too geeky for many people to get.

Also, the idea of consolidating all your identity credentials in one place leaves that one place in a very strong position of power. So no one today—Apple, Microsoft, Yahoo, etc.—wants to let anyone else be that place in power, yet they all want to be that place of power. So while the idea presented is user-centric, the implementations I’ve seen so far, except for maybe OpenID, which is far from secure, are company-centric, focused on the company hosting the credentials.

  2. Thanks for your comments James! I am sure everyone will appreciate your input on Identity 2.0. Are you personally using any of these digital identity suppliers? (Sxip.com or OpenID.net)

  3. I use Apple’s .Mac so that I can synchronize a number of data stores across multiple computers: usernames, passwords, bookmarks, mail accounts, contacts, calendars, etc.

I anticipate starting to use an OpenID account soon enough.
