And here again another cool introduction video from Lee Lefever from Commocraft. This one is a wiki tutorial, what it is and why we should use it. Just like the other videos he made, this one is really well done and is worth sharing around. If you don’t know much about Wikis, you should absolutely view this:

This past weekend at Barcamp Vancouver James from adhack wrangled a session called Zero to 30 Seconds in Less than 1 Hour or So You Think You Can Make an Ad?. I thought the title was clever but I did not think we could actually make it within that time frame. He was adamant. This was a pretty ambitious plan. Is it possible to make an ad in 60 minutes? Yes it is!

During that session, which was by far the funniest one during Barcamp, we separated the class of 20 people in 3 groups. Each group was equiped with a laptop (with video and photo editing softwares) and a digital camera. The goal was to take any product or service that we had access to within Workspace (the physical office space we were during Barcamp) and make an ad with it. It is Do It Yourself (DIY) advertising. Since we had dozens of empty and near empty pizza boxes along with actual pizza slices of all kinds from Uncle Fatih’s pizza, I thought that was the most appropriate choice. So, we all started to make an ad for Uncle Fatih’s, a very popular pizza place in the Commercial Drive area. After 15-30 minutes of idea generation, there was only 15 minutes left to execute the ad. We had to choose whether we would do a video ad or a picture. Then, 10 minutes later, we came up with this:

The other groups came up with different concepts. Please find them here

That was an ambitious plan but we pulled it through. I can’t wait to do this exercise again. It is way more fun in groups than the individual work. Stay tuned for other Adhack sessions.

As you might know, last weekend was Barcamp Vancouver 2007. Much like last year’s Barcamp, this year showed a great variety of presentations and sessions on all kinda of topics ranging from social media, tagging, drupal, CMS, Photo camp and so on. I had a chat yesterday with Lee Lefever from Commoncraft.com on the creation and publication of Online Video Tutorials. He mentioned about his latest videos in plain english which give an introduction to different web topics. They are really well done which and worth sharing. One of the most recent ones is titled, Social Bookmarking in Plain English. If you don’t know much about Social Bookmarking, you have to view this.

It is summer time and everybody is on vacation (or almost). Here is something that will chill your competitors. A few weeks ago, I was browsing around in You-Tube and I found this SEO tool video which presents a very helpful Search Engine Optimization (SEO) tool that can help you spy on your competitors and get a better idea of their traffic level and daily Search Marketing (PPC) budget.

Because understanding your competitors’ traffic, keywords and Pay Per Click (PPC) budget has always been key to benchmark your own Search Marketing successes & goals against your competitors, any tool that can help get the job done is welcome. As such, take a minute to check this video on how to use Spyfu:

Here is a little video that I found on Google Universal Search when it was introduced last month during Google Searchology event in California. It presents Google Universal Search, Google Experimental and Interface Enhancements to its search results interface. Jim Louderback spent the day with Google and has the deets!

I really like to find these videos these days that deliver user centric products and services from all the corners of the web. It seems like I could be blogging all day about everything great that is popping up on the radar every single day. Yes, I know, one of these days I will start creating my own. This one will keep you entertained until then. The presentation style is really awesome.

This video is bit special because it is coming from a local Vancouver entrepreneur, Dick Hardt from Sxip.com, where he presents his solution for Identity 2.0 and how to manage your digital identity across numerous sites. His idea is brilliant, saves time and favors the users as opposed to corporations. Check it out:

Why am I doing this? Well, this video was sent to me from Thierry Latremoille and he asks me to comment on. Since I do not know enough about identity 2.0 just yet or sxip.com for that matter, I have to do some homework. Also, because I want to do this properly, please let me know what you think so I can collect as many benefits as possible (and drawbacks) for using Identity 2.0 services such as sxip.com or any other. I would really like to hear. Thanks!

Microsoft Wants to Bring the Love Back

I was very surprised and pleased today when I came across a really cool video on this post made by Microsoft to reconnect with its customers. It is called the breakup and presents a couple arguing over their communication issues. In this exchange, the woman, who represents the consumer side, is complaining about the lack of 2-way dialogue with the advertisers. On the other hand, the guy, narcissic at best & representing the advertiser’s point of view, is trying to convince her that he knows what’s best for her. Hilarious! I found it great (although the topic isn’t) since I talk about this kind of behaviors in a previous post about user centricity & the Search Marketing philosophy. I have to admit: I really like to criticize advertisers who do not engage in a 2-way dialogue with their customers and I get especially irritated with those who have a self-centered attitude in the exchange they want to initiate. The video presents just that and I love it! Please pass it around.

I came across this today from the Twist Image Blog which talks about what Lee Lefever over at Common Craft have done recently to explain the power of RSS and subscribing to content. This video is titled, RSS In Plain English. If you don’t know much about blog & RSS, you have to view this. It is an excellent video.

Cabane à Sucre 2007 à Rigaud

This is a video I made when I went to La Cabane à Sucre in April 2007 with my family.

This week is Search Engine Strategies New York and as I am browsing through search marketing sites like I always do, I came across this very interesting video from Laura Thieme of BizResearch, which presents key findings in search marketing, including personality types & gender to specific areas of search: organic listings, paid search, Web analytics and more. It is a quick 3 min of good insights. It is made by Lee Odden from Top Rank Blog when he was in SES Chicago back in December.

The Truth in Ad Sales

A few weeks ago, I came across a short clip about the truth in ad sales from Leo Burnett’s Blog called the fruits of your imagination. It is a great blog. It is also refreshing to see an advertising agency who is embracing new media with honesty and philosophy. The clip is hilarious and is a satire of the sales cycle in a traditional ad agency. If you know other major ad agency with blogs, please let me know as I would like to show a few examples here on how it is possible to incorporate new visions to traditional ad agencies, which still have their focus and attention on interruption marketing. Maybe this will help them reconsider their business model.
